One officer was injured after a police cruiser struck a stop light pole early Thursday morning in Morrisania, police say.

Police and EMS responded to the scene near the intersection of East 168th Street and Washington Avenue at around 3:30 a.m.

Authorities say the officer struck a light pole trying to avoid hitting a civilian car.

The officer was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It's unclear how the incident happened.
