In a News 12 exclusive, surveillance video shows the moment a driver plowed into parked cars and ran off - while the car was still in motion.
Police said the car was stolen overnight on Tuesday.
Oscar Sanchez said he found his 2025 Honda Pilot TravelSport totaled near Seward and Rosedale avenues in Soundview.
“I guess it just happened in the blink of an eye,” Sanchez said.
Sanchez says he was sleeping when the thief stole the car from his Throgs Neck home around 2 a.m.
“My wife called me and she said, ‘Where’s your car?” Sanchez said. “I thought she was joking with me at first, but then she was like, ‘Where’s your car?”
About 12 hours later and 3 miles away, the car was on the curb after colliding with at least three parked cars.
Sanchez told News 12 he bought his car in September for about $65,000, and it only had 5,000 miles on it.
“I just recently got the car from hard work and dedication,” Sanchez said.
Sanchez, who works for the Department of Education with students in temporary housing, said he also lost $5,000 worth of jewelry and other collectible items that were inside the car.
“No respect,” he said. “Honestly, we’re going to have to be more alert.”
Police said officers chased down the driver, 34-year-old Angel Colon, and charged him with grand larceny, unauthorized use of a vehicle and criminal possession of stolen property.
