Police rescued a raccoon on Sunday from the ceiling of a Starbucks in Riverdale.

Bronx residents trying to buy their morning coffee at the corner of Johnson and West 235th Street say they were met with a surprise when the shop had to contact authorities about a raccoon in the ceiling.

A source tells News 12 that once officers arrived, the animal was already in a trap. Police brought it back outside after successfully getting it into a cage.

Police say they took the animal to the precinct, where they will decide whether to release it to the wild or call the ASPCA.

While the incident occurred during the day, officials say they do not have any reason to believe that the raccoon had rabies.

Officials say residents who spot raccoons nearby should either call 911 or their local precinct.
