The incident occurred on May 7 at approximately 12:50 p.m.in front of 1233 Lexington Ave. According to police, the woman was walking when an unidentified man suddenly punched her in the face. The attacker fled the scene. The woman was transported to Lenox Hill Hospital where she was treated for bruises and swelling.

The image of the suspect was captured by nearby surveillance cameras. The suspect is described as a bald man wearing glasses, a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue pants, black sneakers, and carrying a backpack. Residents in the area are concerned about the increase in random violence against women in the city.

"It’s shocking. I heard about a couple of attacks on women in New York lately, and I actually got really worried, so I Googled things I can do to protect myself - but this is outrageous,” said Martha Van Der Bly, a resident on the Upper East Side.

The police urge anyone with information regarding this incident to contact their Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
