Police have posted signs throughout Pelham Bay Park to find a man wanted for an attempted rape on May 18.
According to police, a 15-year-old girl was walking in the park alone at 5 p.m. when a man approached her and started a conversation. He then put her in a headlock and dragged her into the woods, where he attempted to sexually assault her.
The teen was able to fight him off and ran away.
It happened on the corner of Stadium Avenue and Middletown Road.
Parkgoers say that is a busy area of the park.
“We don’t have enough cops around here unfortunately, we have to protect ourselves,” said Myra Ortiz.
The suspect is described as between 20 to 30 years old with a medium complexion, slim build, with a mustache and thick eyebrows. Police say he was last seen wearing a green hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants.
Police are offering a $3,500 reward to anyone with information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
