Police are searching for the person who they said shot and killed a 38-year-old man in Highbridge on Friday night.
Police said Alexis Sanchez was fatally shot just before midnight outside the bodega near his home at Nelson Avenue and West 156th Street.
According to the NYPD, officers arrived and found Sanchez shot in the neck.
The victim was taken to a local, where he was pronounced dead.
Sources told News 12 there was an argument before the shooting.
The victim’s family was too distraught to go on camera Saturday afternoon, but Assemblyman Landon Dais, who represents the area, said the community is working to stop violence like this.
“It’s been fairly quiet in this area,” Dais said. “…What we need to do is figure out what happened here, and try to make sure, as it gets warmer, this doesn’t happen and become a repeated thing.”
As of Saturday evening, it was unclear if the victim and the gunman knew each other.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to give police a call.
