NYPD: Teen injured in Bronx subway surfing incident; first subway surfing incident reported in the borough this year

The NYPD says an injured male was found Tuesday night at the subway station on East Gun Hill Road in Pelham Parkway.
They say the teen victim sustained injuries to his head in what they're calling an apparent train surfing incident.
The unnamed teen was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in stable condition.
This is the first subway surfing incident to be reported in the borough for the year. According to the NYPD this all happened just before 6 p.m. on a northbound 5 train.
Last year, there were numerous subway surfing incidents and some of the teens did not survive the deadly trend. As of November, Mayor Eric Adams reported about six deaths last year as a result of subway surfing.
Some of those people subway surfing were as young as 9 years old. To try and end this dangerous stunt the NYPD deployed drones, and as a result were able to save the lives of 114 subway surfers.
