A 16-year-old boy shot in the neck early this morning in Crotona Park East is recovering. The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. on Jennings Street near Bryant Avenue. Police say the teen had surgery and is now in stable condition.
The scene remains active, with crime scene tape and police vehicles blocking off the area. Blood, a sweatshirt, red Solo cups, a lighter, and a motorcycle were found at the scene. The area is residential and located next to a day care center.
According to the victim's mother Selena Cox, her 16-year-old son Kemari Sanders told her he was going to his friend’s house. She also said the man who called 911 took off in red Jordan sneakers.
This shooting marks the third in the neighborhood within the last 24 hours. In one of the previous incidents, a FedEx driver was grazed by a bullet while working near Jennings Street and Hoe Avenue. The NYPD reported that multiple suspects attempted to steal a moped and fired several shots, injuring the 20-year-old driver, who was an innocent bystander.
Police are continuing to search for the suspect in this latest shooting.
