The man fatally shot near Crotona Park Friday has been identified by police as 21-year-old Irvin Provitt.

Authorities say he was shot in the head inside the playground near East 173rd Street around 12:45 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they are searching for two people. A witness told News 12 that they saw a large group and then heard six or seven gunshots.

"Like 15, 20 kids. They just started shooting. When I went over there, I saw someone on the floor,” they said.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call 1-800-577-TIPS.
