NYPD warns of increase in gunpoint robberies that start on Facebook Marketplace

News 12 previously reported that police are investigating eight robberies in the Bronx that happened from Facebook Marketplace posts this year.

In a Facebook post, the NYPD warned people in the Bronx of an increase in robberies that start in the palm of your hand.
News 12 previously reported that police are investigating eight robberies in the Bronx that happened from Facebook Marketplace posts this year.
Lehman College Business Professor Patrick Tormey says to try and avoid in-person meet-ups.
"Have the merchandise shipped to you. There the vendor takes the risk," said Tormey.
If you do decide to meet the seller online, police say to set up the meeting at a designated e-commerce exchange zone.
These zones are well-lit and well-monitored spaces for you to have safe Facebook Marketplace transactions. The zones will have signs that look like this:
Police say every precinct is considered to be an e-commerce exchange zone as well as housing public service areas and transit districts. Here's a list of some of these zones.
