A 68-year-old woman in a wheelchair was fatally struck by a car Sunday afternoon as she was crossing an intersection in Kensington.
The area surrounding McDonald and Webster avenues was blocked off for most of the afternoon as police investigated the scene. The victim was identified by police as Joyce Greenberg.
Her neighbor, Thomas Febrez, lived next to her for 17 years. He says her death was not something he saw coming.
“It broke my heart,” he said.
Witnesses to the crash told News 12 that the victim was pinned under the vehicle. She was taken to Maimonides Hospital where she later died. According to Vision Zero, it wasn’t the first accident to happen at the same location this year.
Police say she was stuck by a 73-year-old female in a 2016 Lexas SUV that was traveling southbound on McDonald Avenue. She was uninjured and remained on the scene.
