NYPD says two people were shot while inside a car at East 170th Street and College Avenue just after midnight.
Officers found a 37-year-old woman shot in the head. She was pronounced dead.
Her passenger, a 43-year-old man shot in the leg, is expected to be okay.
The NYPD says no arrests have been made yet and the investigation is ongoing.
