With the rise of anti-Asian sentiment in New York City during the pandemic, the NYPD's Asian Hate Crime Task Force is hosting free self-defense classes in Bay Ridge to help those affected feel safer.
The program started on May 2, and the task force has partnered with martial arts studios including Tiger Schulman's Martial Arts.
Organizers say they made the class available for all levels.
The task force plans on having more of these weekend events in the future and wants to let the public know that everyone is welcome.
