Gov. Kathy Hochul announced new steps to fight back against illegal smoke shops on Wednesday.
The state Office of Cannabis Management and local agencies will now have greater authority to shut down shops selling marijuana products without a license.
Local registries showing a list of licensed shops will now be kept. Hochul says this move will help support the growth of the cannabis industry and ensure that the market is fair.
The governor also called on social media companies and other tech companies to stop allowing illegal smoke shops to promote themselves on their platforms.
