More than 25,000 law enforcement officers, some from as far as Canada, came to New York to honor Miosotis Familia Tuesday as the slain NYPD member was posthumously promoted to detective at her funeral.
Police have blamed 34-year-old Alexander Bonds for Familia's slaying. They say he had an overt disdain for police officers and posted about it on Facebook. He was shot and killed during a shootout with responding officers.
At one point during the ceremony, a group of officers turned their backs on Mayor Bill de Blasio, who was delivering a speech. He has faced criticism for leaving the country to go to a political protest in Germany while the city was still reeling from Familia's slaying.
Familia's final resting place is at Woodlawn Cemetery.
