Eight firefighters suffered injuries in a four-alarm fire in Edenwald Tuesday morning before rescuers could control the blaze. Firefighters spent three hours battling flames.
All eight suffered minor burns or smoke inhalation after responding to the fire after 8:30 a.m. at 1050 232nd St., officials say. They were all taken to Jacobi Medical Center.
Joi Hills, who lived in the home, says her family and her tenants were all able to make it out safely. The house had been in her husband's family for years, she says.
The investigation is ongoing, but officials say the fire may have sparked near the rear of the building.
All eight injured firefighters are expected to be OK.
