Officials say a suspect from the Bronx has been indicted for hate crimes against a senior citizen.
According to officials, 43-year-old Lamont Dinkins yelled anti-Hispanic slurs and punched the female victim who was using her cellphone on a subway platform. Officials say the incident took place on Jan. 18 at 8:50 p.m. on the R subway line platform at Willoughby Street and Lawrence Street.
The 72-year-old victim was speaking into her cellphone in Spanish and English when Dinkins allegedly cursed at her. Dinkins then allegedly punched the victim repeatedly in the face and head, officials say. He boarded a southbound R train and was arrested at the Barclays Center.
Dinkins was arraigned Tuesday for multiple charges, including assault as a hate crime and aggravated harassment. He is being held on $50,000 bail and was ordered to return to court on April 1, 2022.
