A Bronx man is in jail, accused of attacking police officers with a knife after a series of armed carjackings in Bergen County and New York City.
Uvaldo Gonzalez, 42, was arrested outside the George Washington Bridge around 2 a.m. Sunday. Police say he tried to slash a police officer in the face and injured two others.
Gonzalez is accused of carjacking two vehicles and trying to get away in a patrol car. Police say he crashed one of the cars into a Wendy’s on Route 46 in South Hackensack. Gonzalez allegedly also abandoned the other vehicle before the entrance to the bridge.
He was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.
Officials say Gonzalez has 17 previous arrests and two active warrants.
