A Bronx student brought what appeared to be a gun to school Friday, education officials say.
School officials say the student brought a paintball gun that looked like a real gun to P.S. 069 Journey Prep School.
News 12 is told another student became aware of the paintball gun and notified a teacher. School safety agents then recovered it.
The child's age and how they got the paintball gun inside the school are unclear.
The Department of Education issued a statement saying, "Dangerous items of any kind have absolutely no place in our schools, and our outstanding school staff and School Safety Agents immediately and safely recovered this item and the NYPD determined that it was a paintball gun. No students or staff were in danger and all protocols were followed."
Parents say while they're relieved to learn the gun wasn't real - they weren't originally notified about the incident.
Zuleyma Camacho, a parent of one of the students, tells News 12 she wants all schools to have metal detectors to keep any possible weapons outside of schools.
In early December, a metal detector at a Brooklyn school found 21 weapons in just a day.
