An ongoing construction project in Clason Point that has a roadway torn up is drawing the ire of neighbors.
William Pardilla lives along White Plains Road, where a large-scale construction project has been underway for a few months already. According to the Department of Design and Construction, it's slated to be completed in fall of 2021.
The $100 million project aims to reduce combined sewer overflows into Pugsley Creek while upgrading local drainage and water main systems.
But Padilla says the project has created not only an eyesore, but a mess. At one point it blocked driveway access, and now it's kicking up dust, he says.
"It was sort of a ruthless approach to it, with no consideration for the neighborhood at all," he says. "Basically when it rains, this place is a swamp."
He wants the contractors to lay a sheet of temporary asphalt to keep the dust and debris at bay.
Contacted for comment, a DDC spokesperson said in part, "'To manage the needs of residents and businesses during construction, DDC has a full-time community construction liaison assigned to the project who keeps the neighborhood apprised of construction progress, coordinates street closures and utility shutoffs, and can arrange special requests such as deliveries to local homes and businesses."
