Outdoor youth sports are now allowed to start up at city athletic fields.
City athletic fields have been open through the pandemic with social distancing measures in place, but now youth sports leagues can apply for permits to use city fields starting today.
This includes sports like baseball, softball and soccer. Indoor sports like swimming will still not be allowed though. In addition to wearing face masks, social distancing is also required when the game is not being played. The city says everyone must leave the field after the game, so no congregating is allowed after the game is over. If a team gets three violations, their permit will be revoked.
The mayor says this will all be monitored by the New York City Parks Department, and if the city’s percentage of positive COVID-19 tests exceeds 3% all permits will be suspended.
