City officials announced that over 26,000 homes have been made available to rent for New Yorkers during the 2023 fiscal year.
Thousands of people will soon have the chance to get house keys in their hands. Of the nearly 27,000 homes, 20,100 are ready to rent today. All of the other homes are closed deals and prepared to be developed.
“It’s so important to people like me and so many other New Yorkers struggling,” said Bronx resident Arnetta Dickey. “This should be important to you. Today, I live in a wonderful home with large rooms and enough space for me and my grandkids.”
On top of these homes for rent, the Housing Development Corporation and the Housing Preservation and Development also approved 9,003 affordable homes through the Housing Connect lottery system.
In the 2023 fiscal year, the New York City Housing Authority also converted 2,592 apartments into Section 8 housing.
