The city's plans to build a jail in Hunts Point has hit a roadblock with the property owner now suing the city over the use of the land.
Bright Star Homes is taking the city to court over the Oak Point Avenue plot. "Put a ferry terminal there, expand the rail service at the property. You know, use it as an industrial piece of property," President Steven Smith told News 12 The Bronx in a phone interview.
Smith said the city agreed to help Bright Star get out of bankruptcy by acquiring the property, but building a jail was never part of the deal. Bright Star maintains there is an injunction preventing the city from proceeding.
The matter is scheduled to go to trial early fall.
The city's law department said it cannot comment on the details of the case at this time.
