A homeless man entered the Bronx Charter School for Excellence in Parkchester Friday morning, students and parents say.
The school sent out an email informing parents that a lockdown was taking place, and that the students were safe. Students say they feared for the worst, but the lockdown was over around 9 a.m.
Parents and students say they felt confident about the way the school handled the situation, but are concerned about a homeless shelter the Department of Homeless Services says will be built a block away.
Despite community protests, the shelter is expected to open this winter.
