Park NYC app makes it easier for residents to pay parking meters
City officials are making it easier for residents to pay parking meters by allowing them to use their smartphones.
The new app, called Park NYC, was created by Mayor Bill de Blasio and the Department of Transportation back in December. The app allows drivers to pay for parking using an online system that links registered license plate numbers to NYPD traffic enforcement agents, helping New Yorkers save time.
To use the app, residents just need to enter the zone they are in, how much time they want and then the time starts ticking. However, parking meters will continue to accept coins and cards for those who do not wish to use the app.
The app has nearly 69,000 users, and currently works in the Bronx and Brooklyn. Officials say the app is expected to work across all five boroughs by the summer.
