For months, the park has been undergoing a multimillion-dollar reconstruction makeover.
Bronx residents say parts of the park have been closed off to visitors, which has prevented families from fully enjoying their neighborhood green space.
On Monday, construction crews were putting the final touches on the park's new ballfield. The dog run also is in its final stages for completion.
Meanwhile, the city's Parks Department released a statement about the ongoing renovation projects at St. Mary's saying, “We appreciate the patience of the South Bronx community as St. Mary's Park undergoes transformative changes. While we cannot provide access to dangerous construction sites within the park, we encourage park patrons to utilize the adjacent open street for solitary activities including walking, biking and running. We urge all visitors to exercise common sense when visiting a park or open street, wear a face covering, and maintain at least six-feet between each other.”
Workers tell News 12 they're ahead of schedule and that the new ballfield is scheduled to be completed in the next several weeks.
