A large turtle halted traffic along the Merritt Parkway as motorists jumped into action to assist the animal across the road.

News 12 viewer Morgan Murphy says the snapping turtle was attempting to cross the northbound section of the parkway in Fairfield Wednesday around 7 p.m.
Several drivers stopped their vehicles and worked as a crew to assist the turtle across the roadway as it headed eastbound, Murphy says.
