Pediatric patients at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore got a special visit from a princess for an inspirational story time.
Kids in the pediatric oncology unit undergoing treatment at the hospital had the chance to read a story Tuesday afternoon as the characters came to life in the hospital.
While studying at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in the Bronx, Kylee McGrane and her friends dressed as princesses and visited local hospitals to inspire and bring light to the lives of patients.
McGrane started "Moment of Magic" almost 10 years ago and continues to bring the magic into kids' lives.
The patients received a visit from Princess Elizabeth from McGrane's recently released book, "Your Magic," who read to them as they received treatment.
Hospital staff say that the visit makes the patients feel special and brings a sense of normalcy to their childhood, allowing the outside world to come in.
"Machines may have been going off but they were focused on the story," says senior child life specialist at the Childrens Hospital at Montefiore, Talia Havid, "and [were] excited about something different that was happening.
"Each child was given a copy of the book to take home along with a cape to remind them of their magic moment.
