Residents gathered in Pelham Gardens to remember the cost of freedom on Memorial Day.
Flags and flowers decorated the Rudy Macina Peace Plaza in honor of those who lost their lives while serving our country.
Red, white and blue also decorated the plaza along Pelham Parkway.
Dozens gathered to reminisce on our country's heroes and their brave sacrifices. They sang the National Anthem and watched as veterans raised the American flag.
"Today's important to keep the memory alive of our siblings at arms that gave all and make sure that they know that it wasn't in vain and it wasn't for nothing and that we love them," said Jene Defrancis, commander of the Theordore Coroney Post.
Those at the gathering told News 12 they came to honor the men and women who lost their lives while defending America throughout the years.
