The sidewalk in front of 213 Young Ave. in Pelham Gardens remains impassable over two months since Hurricane Ida swept through the area.
Homeowner Anthony Bernardini says he had been worried about the tree in front of his home and called to have it inspected prior to the storm but that he was told it was OK.
The tree fell on Sept. 1 during Ida. It brought down power lines and damaged homes across the street. When the tree came down, the roots ripped through the sidewalk in front of Bernardini's home, flipping concrete on its side and blocking the walkway.
The tree was removed and cut down, but a massive stump remains on the slanted sidewalk on Young Avenue. Bernardini and other neighbors say they're worried about kids playing and people who are now forced to walk in the street since they can't walk on the sidewalk.
Neighbors say they've made repeated calls to 311, the city Parks Department and the Department of Transportation and weretold it would be fixed by the end of the year.
News 12 reached out to DOT for a statement, and a spokesperson said it will be working with the Parks Department and the  Department of Design and Construction to remove the stump and fix the sidewalk. The DOT expects the work to be completed within two weeks.
