Friday was
Go Red for Women day - where people wore red to bring awareness about heart
disease during American Heart Month.
Heart
disease is the leading cause of death in women and many cases are preventable.
Holly Weiss
first visited Dr. Anu Lala, a cardiologist at Mount Sinai Hospital, in 2019
after experiencing a racing heart and shortness of breath.
Weiss says
when she put on her smartwatch, it showed that her heart rate
was twice what it should be sleeping.
Lala
diagnosed her with heart failure and put her on medication, a new diet and
exercise. Weiss was also a busy professional in a high-stress legal job.
Weiss
founded the nonprofit StandUp! Girls and has worked with kids in both the Bronx
and Brooklyn.
