Police have released a person in custody they were previously questioning in connection to a homicide investigation that began after a burned body was discovered
in a cart in Yonkers on Monday night.
The case led authorities to a Bronx apartment, where human remains were found in the kitchen, along with drugs and a handgun in a bedroom.
Two people were seen in surveillance video obtained by News 12 pushing a shopping cart filled with bags across the street in the Bronx near where the human remains were found.
Yonkers police turned over the investigation to the NYPD after it led them to 903 Rogers Place, where more body parts, drugs, and a gun were discovered in an apartment.
Neighbors spoke with News 12 as the NYPD's Crime Scene Unit remained in the Bronx as they continued to piece together the investigation.
"I knew this wasn't the safest area to move into. Not everyone is even safe anywhere, especially in New York," said one local.
The medical examiner is currently working to determine the cause of death. The victim has not been identified.
While a person of interest has been identified, police have not disclosed their potential connection to the case.
