There are new details about a building super who died after he was assaulted in his own complex in Flatbush.
Investigators said a person of interest was released by the Brooklyn DA’s Office and was not criminally involved.
"He doesn't belong here,” said Qendrim Havolli, the victim's brother. “He doesn't belong free."
As News 12 first reported, a police source said 41-year-old Burim Havolli died after confronting a package thief.
Police said the attack happened Wednesday morning on Ocean Avenue and Glenwood Road.
Neighbors told News 12 the alleged attacker has a history of stealing packages.
One witness said the latest incident stemmed from an argument over the man's scooter blocking the front entrance, then escalated when the man threatened the victim and his wife.
"If I see one of you one of these days, I will bust your head.' Those were his words,” said Jose Abar. “I started recording [with my phone]."
The witness showed News 12 his cellphone video but did not share it. In the video, the alleged attacker can be heard in the lobby of the building cursing and calling the victim racist.
The video stops before the assault.
"I saw the guy with the phone in his hand,” said Abar. “That's when I, kind of, realized he was striking the super in the head."
Havolli's brother told News 12 that the victim refused medical treatment on scene but was discolored and in pain about an hour later.
"First, he said, 'I start getting hot in [my head],” said Qendrim Havolli. “Then [Burim] said, 'My chest is starting [to hurt]."
The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The family is now planning funeral services while fighting for justice.
"[The person of interest] needs to be in jail where he belongs," said Qendrim Havolli.
As of Friday night, police have not released the identity of that person of interest.
