New York City kicked off phase three of reopening today, which means summer recreation for New Yorkers as well as their dogs.
Dog parks are back open, and the Friends of Pelham Bay is making sure owners stay safe and pick up after their dogs, welcoming them back by giving away masks and plastic bags.
It's not just dogs that will be getting a lot more exercise, the Parks Department is reopening basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball and more for some much-needed summer recreation.
Tattoo shops, spas and massage parlors and nail salons will also open back up as part of phase three.
Roxanne Delgado, of Friends of Pelham Parkway, says while the pandemic isn't over it's nice to get back to a sense of normalcy.
"Things that we took for granted now we appreciate more and, of course, anyone that has a dog would appreciate a dog run and be able to use it… Many of these dogs are medium to large size dogs that are pent up in apartments and then they go off on their daily strolls on leashes, and I’m sure just like everybody else they want to just let loose and run around,” says Delgado.
While much of the city is reopening in phase three, indoor dining remains suspended.
