The city commissioner of Philadelphia says that he has been receiving death threats over the presidential election results.
Republican Al Schmidt says that his office has received several death threats since the Nov. 3 election. This comes as election officials in the city are still counting numerous mail-in and provisional ballots.
President Donald Trump called out Schmidt Wednesday on Twitter, claiming that the commissioner “refuses to look at a mountain of corruption and dishonesty.”
Schmidt says that there is no evidence to support the president’s claims.
“I have seen the most fantastical things on social media, making completely ridiculous allegations that have no basis in fact, at all, and see them spread. And I realize a lot of people are happy about this election. And a lot of people are not happy about this election,” Schmidt says. “One thing I can't comprehend is how hungry people are to consume lies and to consume information that is not true."
