A photo snapped on the Brooklyn Bridge went viral this weekend, with people on the hunt to find the couple captured exchanging their vows.
Nikolina Kovalenko and Stefan Ponova got married this past Sunday on the Brooklyn Bridge, with just the two of them and a minister.
"We didn't invite any photographers or friends because we knew we wouldn't be able to invite our families from abroad and our friends and a big celebration, so we will do it at some other point in the future when it's safe,” says Kovalenko.
However, shortly after their private ceremony, a picture of the couple exchanging their vows went viral.
Nevona Friedman says she was riding her bike when she saw the couple and because she didn't see anyone around capturing the wedding, she whipped out her phone.
Kovalenko and Ponova tell News 12 that they're so grateful.
"We are so happy to have this photo especially it really looks like we are absorbed into each other and in the moment, everything looks so natural,” says Kovalenko. The comments under the photo all the people congratulating us and sharing what happened we felt like it was the best wedding gift ever we had no idea how many people would be rooting for us."
They say the unexpected photo has also given them a new friend.
"We are grateful to Nevona because now we feel like she's a part of our story,” says Kovalenko.
The couple tells News 12 they have plans to meet Nevona as soon as it's safe to do so and, maybe by the time they have that large celebration to celebrate their love, they'll have to add one more guest to their list.
