Playground reopens 10 years after closure for safety concerns
A playground in Longwood reopened Tuesday after being closed for more than 10 years.
Longfellow Playground originally closed down due to safety concerns.
New improvements to the playground include new play equipment, a spray shower, seating, lighting at night for safety, fencing and some greenery.
Councilman Rafael Salamanca Jr. allocated some of the money for this park's project and says he used to play there as a kid. He was happy to see it back open after a decade.
The improved playground is a part of the Community Parks Initiative. The purpose is to invest in parks and neighborhoods with higher than average poverty.
