A two-alarm fire in a residential building on Turener Avenue has left a 58-year-old man dead, after he was taken to Jacobi Hospital for smoke inhalation.
A neighbor tells News 12 that he was a former employee of the Department of Transportation.
Video from the Citizen app captured the flames as they burned through the home. FDNY tells News 12 that the fire broke out at around 9 p.m. Monday and quickly reached two-alarm levels, requiring 25 units and over 100 fire personnel to respond.
FDNY is still looking to confirm what caused the fire, but it does not look to be criminal at this time. The Medical Examiner is set to determine the cause of death later today.
