Police are searching for the two suspects who they say stole an SUV with a 1-year-old baby boy and a 73-year-old woman inside in Parkchester.
Authorities say the driver of the SUV left the vehicle running with three passengers on board on Olmstead Avenue and Unionport Road around midnight when two men jumped inside.
Police say the men forced out of the car a woman who is the mother of the 1-year-old boy and the daughter of the 73-year-old before they drove off.
Shortly after, the suspects noticed there were people in the backseat. They then let the son and grandmother out of the car unharmed at Rosedale Avenue and the Cross Bronx Expressway.
News 12 spoke with a witness who said he heard screaming and crying outside his house before he came into contact with the mother. He said her brother was inside the restaurant picking up food while the family was waiting in the car before the men stole the SUV.
Rafi Reza said the woman asked him to borrow his cell phone to call 911 because her phone was inside the stolen car along with her son and mother.
The woman was eventually reunited with her baby boy and mother.
Police said the SUV was found at University Avenue. However, as of Sunday night, they had not found the two suspects that were at the center of the car theft.
