Police say a man is behind bars today after hitting three NYPD officers with an alleged stolen Porsche on City Island Thursday night.
It all started after police say the car was reported stolen in Astoria, Queens, at 8:40 p.m. According to the NYPD, that car was later spotted at City Island Avenue and Horton Street by Bronx police officers.
They say one of those officers and his car were struck by the 19-year-old man behind the stolen wheel, when he got out to assess the situation.
Police say the driver then attempted to take off but was stopped in his tracks when he hit another police car, injuring two officers that were inside.
"I was sitting in the living room with my children when really all I heard was a bunch of police cars speeding up the Avenue as fast as they could go," said Jen, a resident of the area. "I looked out the window and saw some fire trucks and things like that just zooming up the Avenue. I had no idea what happened."
Fortunately, we're told all of those officers are expected to be okay and only had minor injuries.
The suspect is now facing a slew of charges including grand larceny and assault on a police officer as well as criminal possession of stolen property, driving a car without a license, reckless driving and endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, and resisting arrest.
