Police say a 3-year-old fell out of the fifth-floor window of a Bronx apartment window Monday.
The incident happened at around 12:58 p.m. at 2576 E. Tremont Ave. in apartment 55, according to police.
They say the boy, identified as Jose Garcia, suffered a broken thigh bone. The family tells News 12 Garcia was home with family and wandered into another room alone.
They say he started to play with the air-conditioning unit, unraveling tape and moving a piece of cardboard next to it. This left space for him to accidentally slip through.
The family says their neighbor was walking outside when it happened and saw him on the ground. The family says their neighbor frantically ran up and told the family, who says they were in shock.
The Administration for Children Services spoke with the family on Tuesday.
Garcia is recovering at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi.
