Police say a pedestrian was fatally struck by a truck in Morrisania.

The incident happened on Franklin Avenue between East 168th and East 169th streets around 9 a.m.

Witnesses tell News 12 it appeared the woman was leaving a bodega with groceries. Witnesses say the 65-year-old victim was crossing the street at the crosswalk on 169th Street when she was struck.

Neighbors say the victim lived nearby and it was routine for her to go out to the store for coffee daily.

"When I heard, I had tears in my eyes," said Slim, who identified himself as the victim's neighbor.

News 12 obtained exclusive surveillance video of the incident.

Witnesses say the truck wasn't driving fast. They note the driver wasn't aware he had hit the woman until she was completely wedged underneath the front right wheel.

Police say a 59-year-old female was found unconscious at the scene with severe trauma to her body. She was taken to the hospital by EMS and was pronounced dead.

According to police, the driver remained on the scene and was being cooperative. No arrests have been announced.

The woman’s identity is being withheld pending family notification.
