A child was killed after being struck by an MTA bus Saturday afternoon, police say.
Police say 7-year-old Shevon Bethea was riding a scooter when he was struck by a bus at East 184th Street and Webster Avenue at around 3:30 p.m.
Bethea was found on the ground with severe body trauma and was later pronounced dead at Saint Barnabus Hospital.
Witnesses say the driver of the bus had to alerted that they had hit someone before eventually pulling over down the road.
The 7-year-old from Brooklyn was visiting relatives on Webster Avenue, according to residents.
Officials say the bus driver remained at the scene after collision. The NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad is still working to determine if Bethea was by himself at the time of the accident.
In a statement, an MTA spokesman said, “This is a tragic situation and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this young boy. We are working closely with police.”
