An arrest was made Monday in a 22-year-old cold case in the Bronx.
Police say Joseph Martinez, 49, of New Rochelle, is charged in the 1999 killing of 13-year-old Minerliz Soriano.
Soriano was reported missing in February 1999 after leaving school at I.S. 15, and her body was found days later inside a dumpster on Bartow Avenue.
"We don't want her to be remembered as this little girl who was found in the Bronx," says relative Destiny Soriano. "We don't want her to be known as a dumpster Bronx case. We want her to rest in peace. We want her name to be known as justice, as awareness, as hope for families who are."
Authorities say DNA testing led to Martinez's arrest.
Martinez has been charged with murder.
Police are expected to release more information in the coming days.
