Police say at least five people were shot on the Coney Island Boardwalk early Sunday morning. 

They say they it is not clear who opened fire at the large group around 2 a.m. 

A 19-year-old who was shot in the leg and a 31-year-old man were taken to Coney Island Hospital for treatment of their injuries. 

The 31-year-old man was shot in the back and is currently in critical condition.

Two women, ages 26 and 27, were shot in their legs. A 36-year-old man was shot in the chin. They are in stable condition. 

The investigation is ongoing.
