Police: Bay Shore teen drove drunk, fatally struck pedestrian in Islip

A teenager is under arrest for allegedly driving drunk and hitting two pedestrians in Islip, killing one of them on Christmas.

A teenager is under arrest for allegedly driving drunk and hitting two pedestrians in Islip, killing one of them on Christmas.
Luis Trujillo, 67, of Islip has been identified as the pedestrian killed in the crash. Veronica Deleon, 47, of Brentwood has been identified as the pedestrian who suffered serious injuries.
Police say the 18-year-old from Bay Shore was driving east on Union Boulevard around 2:45 p.m.
That's when they say he crossed over the westbound lanes and hit two pedestrians walking in front of an apartment building just north of Islip High School.
The 18-year-old driver was charged with driving while intoxicated. The arrestee was released from the hospital and arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Dec. 26.
Police did not identify the 18-year-old driver from Bay Shore, but he was identified in Suffolk’s First District Court as Jonnathan Zhicaypincay.
The teen remains in police custody on $50,000 bail.
