It was a deadly start to the morning Friday as police investigated two fatal shootings in the Tremont section of the Bronx.
Gunshots rang out just after 2 a.m. on 179th Street, then more shots were fired around 4:30 a.m. on Park Avenue.
The first incident took place in front of 735 East 179th St. where three people were shot, one fatally around 2 a.m.
A 60-year-old man who was shot in the torso at that location died of his injuries. The two other gunshot victims were taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital and are listed in stable condition.
Hours later gunshots erupted outside of 4235 Park Ave. around 4:20 a.m. where they found a 44-year-old man lying on the ground with a gun wound to the back.
The victim was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Three businesses were roped off as part of the crime scene. Officers spent the morning talking with shop owners who were shocked about the violence taking place in front of their businesses.
A local pastor whose church is located on Park Avenue where the second shooting occurred this morning says ongoing violence taking place in his community is the worst it’s been in 20 years.
He says the only thing he can do is continue to pray for his community.
Police are offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest in both shootings.
