The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force is investigating an act of vandalism at the Holocaust Memorial near Sheepshead Bay and Manhattan Beach.
The memorial is meaningful to those in the immediate community because of how it honors the countries impacted by World War II.
The graffiti was found on one of the monument’s slabs dedicated to Russia on Sunday, with vulgar language written across it in what Assembly Member William Colton says was poorly written Ukrainian.
Colton believes it was an attempt to cause a bigger divide in the community, and he was joined by representatives from the Ukrainian and Jewish communities who condemned the attack against the memorial.
