Police arrested a Holbrook man accused of injuring a police officer with a car when he was confronted about robberies at two gas stations.

Suffolk police say 35-year-old Joshua Basile entered the Quick Chek Gas Station on Veterans Memorial Highway in Bohemia on Thursday. 

Police say he stole food and then drove away in a 2022 Ford Explorer around 1:30 a.m.

They say he then went to a BP Gas Station on Veterans Memorial Highway in Islandia and threatened the clerk with a handgun and demanded money and cigarettes. 

After an alert was sent out, police noticed a Ford that matched the description and pulled it over in Bohemia for a traffic stop.

The officer on scene asked Basile to turn off the vehicle, which he did, and then a second officer asked him to step out of the vehicle.

Police say that's when Basile turned the car back on and the officers attempted to stop him.

Basile was able to put the vehicle into drive and hit Officer Ralph Dimasi, who was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

After an investigation by Major Case Unit detectives, Basile was located on the LIE in Queens around 2 p.m. Friday. 

When police tried to stop the vehicle that time, Basile hit and disabled a police cruiser with his car and drove off. 

He was later located on Jamaica Avenue in Queens Village and taken into custody a couple hours later. 

Basile is expected in court today.
