The NYPD responded to a call of a car crash involving an unidentified 39-year-old man and a police officer around 12:01 a.m. in Baychester.
According to law enforcement, the 39-year-old was driving down Co-op City Boulevard in a 2023 black Toyota SUV when he crashed into the driver's side of a police car, traveling down Bartow Avenue.
Some neighbors of the close-knit residential area say the ordeal is a "scary" one, partially "because there are a lot of elderly people living in the area."
Police tell News 12 that the 39-year-old man was transported by local EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and is in stable condition. The officer, also transported to a hospital, experienced pain to the left arm, left hand, and head – and is in stable condition.
No arrests have been made.
